The following are a set of guidelines for the Sikh History Forums. They are based on a combination of traditions & suggestions from forum administrators and even members and may change over time.

Posting Policies

  1. These Forums are to discuss issues concerning Sikhs, Sikhism, Sikh history and Culture, Punjabi culture, Punjabi sports, Technology, computers and Education.
  2. Administrators and moderators do not have any enemies or friends but only strategic interests that are towards the welfare of Sikh Society. From that angle, Topmost criteria for any thread/post is its Learning and thought provoking value. If anyone is learning and engaged in a good debate it is a good thread.
  3. Although some posts that are compare and contrast with other religions may be allowed but any direct attack/mockery on Sikh culture, Sikh religion, Sikh gurus or Sikh Heroes will be automatically deleted by Moderators and Administrators.
  4. Any verbal/textual/image attack and/or mockery of any other religion is not allowed. You are allowed to make statements (not jovial) regarding any religion (including Sikhism) that are contributing to the topic of the thread.
  5. Stereotyping of cultures, religions, races, people is not allowed and calls for immediate deletion by administrators and moderators. Words that define stereotyping are Bhaiyaa, Gorai, Sullah,Sulle, Surd, Gujju, Punju, Using this type of language reflects badly on this website as well as Sikhs. If you are angry, take a deep breath, think twice and then start writing, read it again and if everything is according to rules and regulations then post.
  6. Any type of Vulgar language, personal attacks and flame wars are STRITCTLY PROHIBITED. Moderators and Administrators have authority to delete/edit such posts.
  7. Good threads will be archived for future references while threads that are inactive for more than 45 days will be deleted.

User Name Policy

New forum members are kindly requested to register with a username that

  1. is not a call sign.
  2. is not an abbreviation or a Single Character.
  3. is not with numbers.
  4. is not in all caps.
  5. is not based on the names of mythological characters.
  6. is not a fictitous and/or offensive name to any religion/culture.
  7. is not based on an offensive stereotype.

Usernames deemed inappropriate for the forum will be promptly deleted. The Forum software allows users to have a "Displayed Name". Please note that the displayed name should conform to the above guidelines and it should not be changed once set.

Free Email id Policy

Registering using an email address from a free email service provider is not strictly enforced., since many of our users login from the cybercafes in India. Email address as provided by your ISP is preferred but if you don't have an email by ISP than using yahoo or hotmail are ok. Your co-operation in this matter is greatly appreciated. Even if you have provided your non-valid email your IP address still gets recorded and if worse come to worse we will have to put the IP address on the banned person list.

Checklist before posting

  1. New members are requested to please check the forum for threads that already have content relating to any questions/comments they may want to post and post questions on there. This may require some lurking and reading through forum posts.
  2. Please be relevant to the topic of the thread.
  3. Hijacking the thread (discussing something irrelevant to the topic) will be monitored by the Forum Administrators and Moderators and based on their discretion they may either create a new thread or edit/delete the posts.
