Sat Sri Akaal to you all. I am currently doing research into the Sikh religion. Can anyone tell me what the Sant Nirankari Sect has to do with Sikhism (based in Delhi)? Do they believe in the Sikh ways? (I could not work this out from their website) Many thanks. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh. (As I am having PC problems I have not got an address for the moment - I'd be grateful if someone could post a reply to me in this guestbook)

This website is an excellent tool for studying the Holy Bani of the Gurus. I have been studying the Brahma Kumari literature aswell as Sikh literature over the past few years and have found many common elements. Has Sikhi contributed to the Brahma Kumari beliefs in any way?

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!! The site has been very well planned and setup. It is certainly very educative and interesting. I have a small suggestion, I would recommend a small link on each page as "Send this page to a friend" or words to that effect. The thing is while going through the site one does come across certain interesting fact that can be shared with other friends. Such a link or button will provide immediate solution wherein a window opens up and the email address of the recepient can immediately be filled. It would also help in promoting your site amongst the community. Thanks and Regards. Sat Sri Akal !!

I am mighty impressed by the website created about the sikhs. For a long time I had in mind to create one about the valour and courage of the Sikhs of the Army. I would like to find out how one would include martyrdom of Major Bhupinder Singh, MVC, of the Armored Core who fought a gallant battle of tanks in the 1965 Indo-Pakistan war. Another Sikh hero from Taran Taran was awrded the Order of British Empire ( OBE ). I think it is a great idea to honor our parents, grand-parents for their enormous contribution to the Military operations. dear webmaster everybody knows that religion plays very important role in our life. you have done very good job on this by making a such good site. i have some ideas. so that u can attract more people. put up some content (may be news on Sikhism or topic of your choice) on your site that # changes everyday, itself, so that you don't have to do anything yrself # have a slight graphical component, # does not take time to load, # and also takes very less space So what better than NEWS, that changes everyday! i have seen some sites who hv set up news headlines & their pg load is quite fast.they have taken news from http://www.indianewsnetwork.com/jsfeeds/index.mv?guide=news&feedid=i/8h0joyki The sites i visited were http://sikhnet.com/news If you feel like you can also set up news on yr site on the specified topics or tel us we will creat a topic for you.. thanks & regards webmaster webmaster 's WWW site ; e-mail: Delhi, Delhi India - Wednesday, May 03, 2000 at 01:58:52 (edt)

You may find this a strange request. I am researching the events surrounding a battle at the village of Ramnuggar (Ramnagar)in the Punjab during the 2nd Anglo Sikh war. I have photographs of the burial site of the British fallen which is very close to the Summer House of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. It is my endeavour to visit Pakistan and to carry out some restoration work at the site. The Summer House is in a very poor state and I guess that without some extensive repair it is soon going to crumble. This would be a very sad loss and one that I believe we should prevent. Two things - Is there a Sikh organisation to whom I can put forward my plans? Can anyone provide me with information on the history of the Summer House and of Ranjit Singh himself? Many Thanks, Your site has already proved most informative. Bob Bob 's WWW site ; e-mail: St Annes on Sea, UK - Monday, February 28, 2000 at 13:42:11 (est)

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. Dear readers: Sikhism is not just another religion, it is far greater, it is universal. Everything that this soul needs to know in order to purify it and prepare to meet the supreme soul is told by the Das Guru Sahib Ji's Jot, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji . You may fallow any religion you choose, but you must fallow the rules as told BY THE SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI. Because Guru is God, and God is Guru. Then God has told us what we need to do in order to purify our souls and meet with the Supreme One. We must always watch out for Maya. It has many faces. It is unjust lust, unjust anger, unjust greed, unjust attachment, and unjust pride. I will write more. No one tell everything in Gurmat in amillion lifetimes. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. I have a few things to say to everyone. While reading some of guestbook entries made, I realized that some of those spoke against Sikhism. I would advise the person who is responsiable for this site that he only post pro-Sikh comments made by people. One person said that Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale is not a great Sikh personality. Another comment was that the Namdhari so called Guru should be regarded as Satguru Ram Singh. I don't think so. This site should post no comments that somehow speak against the panth. Paramjit

By the way all the while gianiji have been telling that guruji fought bravely with the monghuls , can u send me any books name of this peice of history which tells that the guru fought bravely because i need to correct this or else guruji will be labeled many unwanted names.waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh

dear webmaster everybody knows that religion plays very important role in our life. you have done very good job on this by making a such good site. i have some ideas. so that u can attract more people. put up some content (may be news on Sikhism or topic of your choice) on your site that # changes everyday, itself, so that you don't have to do anything yrself # have a slight graphical component, # does not take time to load, # and also takes very less space So what better than NEWS, that changes everyday! i have seen some sites who hv set up news headlines & their pg load is quite fast.they have taken news from http://www.indianewsnetwork.com/jsfeeds/index.mv?guide=news&feedid=i/8h0joyki The sites i visited were http://sikhnet.com/news If you feel like you can also set up news on yr site on the specified topics or tel us we will creat a topic for you.. thanks & regards webmaster

Bob

Dear Reader Wahiguru Ji Ka Khalsa Whiguru Ji Ka Fathe This is a very cool site. It is great to see at least some people are keeping our old religion alive. I mean now all it is is Tables and chairs. I mean like the gurdwara people say that the Hukamnama said to pick up tables and chairs. But did it say makes two gurdwaras and fight. Here in Fort St. James only 3 families come yo the gurdwara because there are no chairs. I myself don't care. I don't go to the gurdwara to eat. I go there to listen t pat. I mean if you don't like sitting on the ground to eat, at least come to listen to pat. Please E-mail me any comments you have regarding this articlte at CHAHALJOHNNY@HOTMAIL.COM

This comment is to G, sikhs are not the right-hand of Hindus, are you trying to suggest that sikhs are part of the hindu religion. YOU ARE wrong if you think this, Guru Teghbudar did give up his life for humanity, in this case a group of people called hindus. I do not care if hindus regard sikhs highly, the point is sikhism is indpentent from any other religion and born from GOD only. We sholud never forget the facism shown by so called hinus in 1984 and the murder, rape and genocide of the sikh communities through-out Indian especially in Delhi. So please read into your history, and try not to praise the so called hindus and the country of India, I regard india to be the number one Facist country in the world, there have been over 250,000 cases of sikh death by the goverment, there are much un-recorded cases. These killing by the Pro-Hindu Facist goverment are happening at present. The only answer is independence for sikhs. (KHALISTAN).

SRI WAHEGURU JI KI KHALSA SRI WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH SATSRIAKAAL, TO ALL THE BROTHERS AND SISTERS AROUND THE WORLD. THIS AN EXCELLENT WEB SITE FOR SIKHS AND NON SIKHS PEOPLE, I HAVE RECOMEMENDED THIS SITE TO PEOPLE AND HAVE SAID ITS GREAT AND FANTASTIC. I DO BELEIVE THAT THERE SHOULD BE MORE INFORMATION ON KHALISTANI AFFAIRS,THE DIFFERENT GROUPS ETC AND ON OPERATION BLUESTAR AND THE AFTERMANTH OF THE ASSASINATION OF THE PM. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT IS PART OF SIKH HISTORY, WHICH CAN NEVER BE FORGOTEN. I AM NOT DEMANDING KHALISTAN..IM DEMANDING JUSTICE FOR THOSE THAT WHERE MURDERED, RAPED, BURNED ALIVE,ETC. THIS IS REALITY AND THERE ARE STILL KILLINGS GOING ON RIGHT NOW. DURING OUR GLORIOUS HISTORY WE HAVE FACED COUNTLESS ODDS TILL THIS EVERY DAY,I HAVE FIGHTED WITH TURKS,MUGHALS,AFGANS THE BRITISH AND WE HAVE TO FIGHT THESE BRAHMINS/CONGRESS. I WOULD TELL EVERY SIKH TO TRY TO BE A GOOD SIKH; LEARN THE SATGURU'S HISTORY, THE SCRIPTURES AND GURUBANI. AKAAL SAHAI!!! THIS IS ONE OF THE FIRST PIECES OF THE SATGURUS BANI WHICH I READ, BEFORE THAT I DIDN'T REALLY NO MUCH OR VERY LITTLE.BUT NOW A HAVE LEARNED GURUBANI,KIRTAN,GATKA,SIMRAN.HERE IS THE MASTERPIECE: BLESSED ARE THEY IN THE WORLD WHO'S LIPS ARE ON GOD'S PRAISES AND IN THEIR HEART THEY CONTEMPLATE WAR. THIS BODY IS MORTAL AND WILL NOT LAST FOREVER, SO CLIMB ABOARD THE SHIP OF GOD'S NAME; AND SAIL THIS WORLDLY OCEAN. MAKE THIS BODY THE HOUSE OF PATIENCE AND LET WISDOM LIGHT THIS HOUSE. I feel that we both have a lot in common spiritually & through my studies of both the Hindu & Sikh religions & traditions I can see a lot of similarities between the two. I really respect the teachings of the Gurus & I hope that someday soon the Hindus & Sikhs of India can settle their differences as all religions are but separate pathways to the same destination...GOD!

Sat Sri Akal, I feel if you want to be a sikh of Guru's then first thing is devotion and faith. I experienced in my life the more I feel depressed the more help i recieve. The source of motivation and boosting is reallity. Can we do this? Yes of course. After all if we are Sikhs of Guru and it is their grace that our community is still progressing. And if with their grace we can flourish then we can be salvaged too. The key is to shed ego. The day we do the same we are rescued.

I'm very impressed with this site. There are many elements in here which are are both educational and enlightening. I can definitely say that this contribution that you have made, no only to the Sikh community but to all the people who wish to find out more or familiarize themselves with this fascinating culture. This is another sure way to backfire certain stereotypes and deter many more from gaining any momentum. In short, keep up the good work !

Sorry, that write in your guest book, but it was not possible to open your e-mail link. I'am a student for the history of South Asia. Actually I write a paper about the changing process of the sikhs from a pacifictic to a military oriented community. My question is now: What is the reason for the number "five". Guru Gobind Singh founded the Khalsa with the first members. They were numbered in five. He gave "the formula of five into five" for Khalsa members. If you can help me, I will be very happy. Your page a really good "teach yourself" about the Sikhs and Sikhism. Thank you! Dominik Urban

Recently I came across the Sikh History site while casually browsing the web. Congratulations to the authors for making it a great place to learn about the history of the Sikhs. Rarely one sees such a through site about a particular topic. One thing that particularly impressed me was the objectivity of the articles. While presenting the facts as it is, the authors have wisely kept away from the fanatical rhetoric. Whether be it the delicate issue of operation Blue Star or the martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur, The authors have presented the history without any prejudices. It is touching the read the comments of the author while describing the martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur (Please don't be angry...). Had such people been in the charge of the affairs in the tragic 80's, Punjab would not have lapsed into violence. One of the main Sikh fear is the losing their identity in the vastness of Hinduism. But Sikhs must realize that they were never a different people than Hindus. Most of the present day Sikhs are descendents of Hindu farmers of Punjab who bonded themselves in the martial order of the Khalsa to protect themselves against the Mughal and Afghan oppression. Sikhism was a historic necessity, without which the native Indian culture of Punjab would have been destroyed completely. Sikhism was the Hinduism answer to Islam in which the Hinduism adopted the strengths of Islam (equality of men regardless of birth, universal brotherhood, belief in one God etc.) and then stood up to protect the native Indian culture against foreign Arab-Persian-Turkish culture. After all, didn't Guru Gobind Singh draw his inspiration from Goddess Durga? It is understandable of the Sikhs to protect their separate identity, but to project Sikhs as a different people who should get a separate state of their own on the basis of their separate(?) religion would have been a denial of history. Sikhs may not realize it but their millions of Hindus who recognize and respect Sikh sacrifices for the cause of Hinduism. Throughout the history Sikhs have acted as the sword arm of Hinduism. Guru Teg Bahadur sacrificed his life not just for the Sikhs but for the pandits of Kashmir. Just how closely related Sikhism and Hinduism are is amply clear from the Guru's offer to Aurangzeb. ( If you can make me accept Islam, All Hindus will accept it) Does it not prove that the Guru considered Hindus so much as his own people that he found it his right to speak on their behalf. And he surely did not let Hindus down. Taking the responsibility of saving all Hindus of the country on his shoulders, he faced death bravely. And Aurangzeb was left with only his satanic means to convert Hindus into Islam. Further down the flow of history, Under the leadership of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and his general Hari Singh Nalwa, they ousted oppressive Afghans from Kashmir. Ranjit Singh's kingdom stood guard at the doors of India an d put and end to repeated invasions form northwest. In 1947, they escorted thousands of Hindus under their Jatthas during the partition violence. And fittingly enough, the first troops which landed in besieged Srinagar during Pakistani invasions of 1948 and saved it for India were none other than Sikh troops. In the readers comment section, I have noticed that all the Hindu readers have praised the Sikhs for their contribution towards the country and not a single one harbors any bad blood against Sikhs for the killings of the 80's. I hope these comments will put some sanity into the minds of some of your extra-enthusiastic readers. ( One particularly impressed me - " Oh man, great man ...." - who is this? Some typical ABCD? ) To such people I can only point out the observation made by Khushwant Singh in a recent Outlook article that their are eight thousands instances of the word 'Hari' in Guru Granth Sahib but only sixteen instances of the words 'Wahe Guru'. This should give the reader some perspective on the shared Hindu-Sikh culture. Operation Blue Star is a deed which can not be undone. However painful it might sound, the fact has gone into history that a Hindu Lady Indira Gandhi stands among the likes of Ahmad Shah Abdali who destroyed the Akal Takht. But the tragedy of the Delhi riots of '84 can surely be healed. I sincerely hope that the Indian Government will brought to book all the culprits of the riots and close a dark chapter in the Hindu-Sikh history forever. That can be called new beginning.

WaheGuruji ka Khalsa, WaheGuruji ki Fateh.... I am proud of the amountof effort that has been put into this website.. Keep it up..... It might be a good idea to form a group/forum to discuss how to spread our religion to the new generation rather then imposing upon them (which ofcourse goes against the fundamental principles of Sikhism)....my worries are about the next generations to come, a way to release sikh history texts in English and other languages, hold yearly get-togethers of intellectual people from Academics and universities in major cities around the world.... form sikh missionaries who could travel around the world spreading our teachings in English and Punjabi to the world at large.... may be we should be looking at a non-profit organisation, may be a set of 'untouchables' who are far beyond political reach and corruption... Think about this, in Christianity, Jesus alone gave his life for his people and he has half the world following his teachings, in our religion ten prophets(gurus) gave their lives for the righteous and us, and we are only a pinch of salt in terms of sikh population in this world. We have to look beyond what we have today.... have a vision.... and then take steps to achieve our goals..... meets the goals that our Gurus set for us. I hope we can all get together and work together to let the world know who we are and what we stand for..... intellectually and with reason.

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, WAHEGURU JI KI FATAY. Excellent Wibe site for our Sikh History. One point of concern; Upon the creation of Khalsa by Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, it is inconclusive whether goats were used, or their blood.! For our Great Guru, it would not have been extraordinary to actually be-head the panj piaras and revive them ! So we should be very careful on to say Guru Gobind Singh Ji used Goats blood, as this portrays that Khalsa started from a sacrifice of Goats (against our tachings), which Guru Gobind Singh Ji would never do !, and it also offends many Sikhs. By Guru's GRACE
